Here’s a report from CBS: http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2014/04/01/runner-missing-near-foresthill-since-sunday-found-alive/

The following was released by the Sheriff’s Office yesterday afternoon:

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has more than 60 searchers looking for a Modesto man who was reported missing Sunday afternoon. He was running the Western States trail outside of Foresthill with a group.

Robert Root, 55, was last seen around 9:30 Sunday morning. He then apparently got separated from the group. When the runners returned to their starting point, they realized Root was missing. They ran back into the rugged canyon area, but were unable to find him. They called the sheriff’s office at 3:20 p.m. He was wearing running shorts and a light jacket.

A search began immediately, then resumed at 6 a.m. today. There are more than 60 searchers currently looking for Root. There are hikers, search dogs, motorcycles, 4×4’s, and horse teams in the canyon. Teams from Nevada and El Dorado counties joined the search, plus the CHP and Placer County Sheriff’s helicopters. Most of the searchers are volunteers who’ve gone through hundreds of hours of training.

If Root is not found today, the search will resume tomorrow morning at 6 a.m.
